Epilepsy - seizure types in brief.
Epileptic seizures can be very different. It depends on where in the brain something is wrong. Epileptic seizures are divided into two main types:
Partial seizures
Here the attack comes from just a part of the cerebral cortex.
Generalized seizures:
Here the entire cerebral cortex is involved.
|
The attack arises in the middle of the brain and from
here spreads to the entire brain. The attack can arise on
its own or follow a partial attack spreading to into
the middle of the brain.
I. Patial attack spreading
II. Generalized attack
III. Patial attack localized |
The attack arises somewhere in the cerebral cortex
and affects only the immediately surrounding areas.
The symptoms depend on which part of the
cerebral cortex is affected.
|
There are attacks which fall outside the two main types and there are attacks which resemble epileptic seizures, but are not.
